Important Passport Information

For the purposes of this program, you must have a passport valid through 6 months after your return date with at least 1 blank page empty- PLEASE CHECK YOURS!  We will coordinate your air and ground transportation, but if you have no passport, you don’t go!

According to the U.S. Passport website, you can renew online (4-6 weeks) if you qualify, or apply for routine service and expect to receive a USA passport in 6-8 weeks.  Plan accordingly if you expect to go on the trip in October!

You also have the option of paying an additional $60 for expedited service to receive your passport in 2-3 weeks.  Remember:  It may take up to 2 weeks for applications to arrive at the passport agency or center, then it may take up to 2 weeks for you to receive a completed passport after they print it.  Mail times vary across the country, so plan ahead and apply early.

If you already have a passport and qualify to renew, you can easily do so online, taking your passport photo yourself with the instructions provided.  If you need to apply for a new passport, you can download, fill out and print passport forms, check the status of your application, schedule an appointment at a passport agency and more on the website below.   For more information, visit travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html.

*NOTE:  Air tickets will not be issued until you confirm your passport application/renewal (if applicable) has been received by the Passport office. Once tickets are issued, you will be responsible for the 1099 value even if you cannot travel due to your passport not arriving in time.  Apply immediately!



UNITED STATES CITIZENS TRAVELLING TO MEXICO:

WEATHER:  We will keep you informed if there are any concerning weather changes that might affect the trip.

On the day of your departure, arrive at the check in desk of your airport NO LESS than two hours prior to take off. The airlines ask for three hours for an international flight and we recommend you follow their request.

✅  Passports are required and must be valid through 6-months past your return date (April 25, 2026).

  • Your passport is also required to have at least one blank page inside to enter Mexico. In addition to your passport, please bring a copy of the picture/data page. Carry it with you, separate from the passport; do not place in checked bags.

A Tourist Card, FMM or Customs Form is no longer required as long as you have a valid passport.

✅  Please let us know immediately if you become ill or have any other emergency where you might need to cancel your trip.  You might be responsible for non-refundable/non-transferrable plane tickets, depending on notice of cancellations.  Please contact Kristi Mirocha, our travel coordinator, with any concerns.

RETURNING FROM MEXICO  (before you arrive back in the United States):

✅  As of  2022, air travelers are no longer required to show documentation of a negative viral test result taken within the flight’s departure to the United States before boarding. If this changes, we will advise you.

✅  VISITAX:  This tax on non-Mexican visitors was instituted in 2021 but with very lax enforcement. Recently, enforcement has been ramped up. This fee cannot be included in flight fares or hotel stays. Confirmation of payment will be tied to your passport. While you may not be asked for proof of payment, we suggest complying. The fee is 283 pesos per person, $15-18 US depending on exchange, and is to be paid prior to leaving Mexico. You may also pay at home before you go to Cancun.

Visit www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/ to pay with your credit card. Another official affiliate is www.visitax.app. They charge $17.75US to avoid any possible international transaction fees your card issuer my charge and also includes a small service fee. When completing the form, you list the date you are leaving Cancun.

With either provider, a QR code will be sent immediately upon payment, be sure to save to your phone or print a copy as proof.

 

After travel:

  • Self-monitor for COVID-19; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
